Made with intention, Designed to remain.
At The Halo Lab, sustainability is not treated as a badge or a finished achievement. It is an ongoing practice built around tangible choices: creating in considered quantities, selecting materials for longevity, working with skilled makers in Portugal and reducing unnecessary packaging.
Our intention is simple—to create distinctive pieces that are worn, cared for and kept beyond a single season.
Craft over excess
Each Halo is individually shaped and finished by hand in Portugal. Crowns, brims, trims and details are worked piece by piece, giving every design its own character.
This is not fast or uniform production. Subtle variations are part of the process and a reflection of the hands behind each piece.
Materials chosen with purpose
Our principal materials are predominantly of natural origin and are chosen according to the structure, performance and character required by each design.
Our felt collection includes European-sourced superfine Merino wool, Rabbit-fur felt and carefully selected blends. Our lighter designs are created using materials such as paper straw and handwoven raffia, among others.
These materials are selected for their ability to hold their shape, age with character and remain wearable over time. We do not believe that any material is entirely without impact. Our responsibility is to use each one consciously, communicate its composition clearly and create pieces worthy of the resources and craftsmanship invested in them.
The complete material composition of every Halo can be found on its individual product page.
Designed for lasting wear
Longevity is central to how we think about sustainability.
A Halo is designed to live beyond trends and seasons. Thoughtful construction, carefully selected materials and proper care help preserve its shape and character over time.
Our Care Guide explains how to handle, store and maintain your hat. When not being worn, we recommend keeping it inside its original box or dust bag to protect it from dust, moisture and distortion.
Packaging with purpose
Our packaging is designed to protect each Halo without using more material than necessary.
Every order is packed inside a recyclable cardboard hat box, secured with paper filling instead of plastic-based protective filler, and accompanied by a reusable organic-cotton dust bag.
The box and dust bag are intended to remain useful beyond delivery, providing long-term storage and protection for your Halo. When no longer needed, the paper and cardboard components can be separated and recycled according to local guidelines.
A structured hat requires sufficient space and support to travel safely. Our approach is therefore to use only what is needed, avoid unnecessary single-use plastic and choose packaging elements that can be reused.
Progress, not perfection
We are a young, women-led independent business, and we prefer transparency over broad promises.
As The Halo Lab grows, we will continue reviewing our materials, suppliers, production methods and packaging. When we make a meaningful and verifiable improvement, we will communicate it here clearly.
Responsibility, to us, is not a campaign. It is a practice that continues with every piece we create.
